Mylen (Maye) originates from a remote mountain village in Mindanao. The location is so isolated there are no formal access roads or electricity, totally a self-sufficient agricultural economy. Maize is the staple food and this is cultivated by hand with the assistance of Caribou to work the ground.
Her village has no formal medical service and many health issues are dealt with by an Albularyo a folk healer that practise folk medicine and use herbal medicines.
Maye’s mother was the Albularyo (folk healer using herbal medicines and also the mountain doctor) and she was also the Manghihilot who specialised in massage techniques for healing, and treatments applicable to sprains, fractures and musculoskeletal conditions.
During Mylen’s upbringing she witnessed and learnt the skills and techniques from her mother. She has also inherited the faith and the special healing powers that are passed down from generation to generation. Maye is a small person however her healing hands are very strong.
Mylen has a natural affinity to use her skills to help others, she practises holistic body , mind therapy with her massage.
Since moving to New Zealand people have noticed the amazing benefits Mylen’s massages and she was encouraged to provide this as a service.
With this in mind Maye has Trained in New Zealand and has completed several NZQA qualifications in massage and has opened her own clinic in Blenheim, NZ.
